Children are expected to learn the main fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents i.e. that 50% = 0.5 = 1/2, or 25% = 0.25 = 1/4 etc.

Children can generally spot that it is easy to find equivalent decimals and percentages as they use the same digits e.g. 75% = 0.75, 15% = 0.15, 81% = 0.81. However, where they struggle is in knowing which fractions relate to which decimals and percentages. This they generally have to learn, although I will explain in a later post how to convert from decimals and percentages into fractions.

In order to help them to memorize these facts I have thus prepared some equivalent triangles which you can use to help test your children on a regular basis.

You can download the triangles, print them out and them either stick them on card, or laminate them in order to make them more durable. All you need do is cover up one of the facts and get the children to say which fact you have covered. I would suggest that you cover the fractions, as these are generally what the children find hard to remember.
